Green Colada

Recipe 11 Green Colada Page 91

I have been reading through Crazy Sexy Kitchen while lounging in bed this morning.  Plotting out all the recipes I am going to make over the next few weeks.  I have 139 recipes before I complete my project of cooking my way through this cookbook.  When I naively said, "Hey, I will do a Julie/Julia project."  I didn't grasp how big of a task it really would be.  Not to mention I have never really given myself a timeline.  I figure I will hopefully complete this mission around March.  Maybe my birthday if I am lucky, March 7th.  That would be a cool present to myself! Plus a challenge because there are less then 139 days until my birthday.  I do have a pretty busy life with my 3 kids, but I will do my best!

So far it has been fun, and I have found some really great recipes.  Gosh, I hope this won't be like the movie Julie/Julia.  Ya know the part where Julie Powell finds out that Julia Childs hates her.  I hope Kris and Chef Chad don't hate me by the end of this whole thing.  That would really be sad huh!  I might need a cocktail to help process the thought of that... Is it 5 o'clock yet?

Well until then why not cut loose and have a green cocktail!  Today I made a Green Colada. Here is what you will need:
I used a frozen banana instead of a fresh one.  I always want my smoothie super cold, as I had mentioned before and the frozen banana helps.  This is a very tasty, refreshing drink.  The fruit made it really sweet.  I loved the pineapple.  The best part was the greenness of the smoothie didn't scare my kids off.  I think the amazing aroma from the smoothie couldn't keep them away!

My hubby said it reminded him of an Orange Julius.  We used to go to the mall when we were kids and always stop at Orange Julius for a drink.  Green Colada is healthy, but it doesn't taste healthy.  My daughter (the tween) who is really finicky drank the whole thing!  I asked her if she would rather drink this awesome smoothie or have a salad?  She said hands down the smoothie.  She drank it with a smile.
With all that spinach Popeye would be proud!

  1. I'm going to try this with my kids. I've been trying (they say preaching) to get them to make healthier choices. Maybe if I try this recipe and they like it, I can at least introduce this to their routine.
    Thank you!
(BTW) I found you through the comment you posted on Kris Carr's blog.

  2. I noticed that you don't list out the ingredients but post a picture of them which is fine but what's in the measuring cup?
